Designer Interviews | Oct 31, 2015

With the label stocked throughout the UK, France, USA, Korea, Ireland and Australia, Bower is fast becoming known as one of the leading luxe swim labels. Having launched just under a year ago, the collection is run by Fiona and Rupert, who split their time between London, England and Biarritz, France.

Where did you come up with the name BOWER?
Although we met in London, Rupert and I both grew up in Manly on the Northern Beaches. Fairy Bower was a regular hang out during our formative years and I also grew up on Fairy Bower Rd so it was fitting for us – we always imagined our girl was the kind you would find hanging down at the Bower.

What led you to the decision to launch your swimwear brand BOWER?
Living in Europe it became apparent that good swimwear is hard to find. Things were either super expensive and not particularly practical or cheap and didn’t really last. Bower was born to fill that void.

If you weren’t designing swim what would you be doing?
We both have a passion for good food and coffee so are actually in the process of opening a café in Biarritz with a friend. Multitasking is something we are not afraid of.

What is the inspiration behind your Summer 2015/16 collection?
Each season we choose a muse, a woman whose makes us tick – this season was all about Jane Birkin. A mixture of innocents with a hint of Gallic sex appeal.

If you could dress anyone in BOWER who would it be?
Elle Mcpherson, Cindy Crawford, Barbara Minty, Brooke Shields, Anna Bayle – the list is endless but any Super will do!

How would you describe BOWER in five words?
Sexy, vibrant, detailed, wearable and fun

What do you think the most important thing is to remember when buying swimwear?
The most important thing to remember is that whatever you do make sure you buy a swimsuit that makes you feel confident. The less bells and whistles the better, it’s all about perfect fit and something that won’t fall off in the white wash.

Do you have any exciting future plans for BOWER?
This next year will see us collaborate with artists / designers to really grow the brand. Watch out for exclusive prints, lifestyle products and a greater offering of RTW.
