Midnight Swim is fast becoming the go-to brand for all the cool kids with the label gaining some serious exposure since their launch in May this year. We caught up with Genevieve to chat about the new summer range, the Midnight Swim girl and who they would absolutely love to dress!
Where did you come up with the name MIDNIGHT SWIM?
Some of our best nights have been in the height of summer with sand between our toes. We love a moonlit night and a Midnight swim.
What led you to the decision to launch your swimwear brand MIDNIGHT SWIM?
Instinctively it made sense to launch Midnight having chased endless summers dividing my time between Bali and Bondi. Producing swimwear felt like second nature to me because I was either at the beach or living poolside year round.
Who is the MIDNIGHT SWIM girl?
The Midnight girl is a lover of life, she loves a good night on the town as much as she loves a good bikini. Fit, fun and flirty she enjoys soaking up the sunshine on the beach or poolside with her friends. She's in heaven on summer nights when the air is infused with the fragrant heady smell of frangipanis and is partial to white sheets and the taste of salty skin. With her hair blowing in the breeze the Midnight girl has everything she needs.
How would you describe MIDNIGHT SWIM in five words?
The perfect bikini found here.
Do you have any exciting future plans for MIDNIGHT SWIM?
Yes, stay tuned, we look forward to revealing more soon.
If you could dress anyone in MIDNIGHT SWIM who would it be?
Kendall Jenner, hit me up if you're reading this. Karlie Kloss, Rhianna, Phoebe Tonkin,
What are some of your favourite summer styles from MIDNIGHT SWIM range?
My favourites are the Ibiza and the Tahiti, I love the unique hand woven elements to these bikinis. The Ibiza's are particularly special as each one takes days to hand weave and make. And theVenice, in sports mesh. I love the versatility of this bikini, the halter makes for a cute crop top with its knot tie front with a pair of denim cut offs. The wine colour is definitely my ultimate shade - I love the name Bali Wine as when people place an order for it, it reminds me of some serious fun in Bali with friends.
What is the inspiration behind your first collection?
Bohemian meets Sports luxe. I wanted to create something that was unique. A fusion between strong shapes, hand woven detailing and the functionality of swimwear as sportswear. As a starting point i was inspired by what makes the best beaches in the world the most popular, the fit bodies of Venice beach and Bondi, the wildness of Ibiza, serenity of Tulum. We worked on making sexy cuts sexier, fit was a major focus.
What do you think the most important thing is to remember when buying swimwear?
Know your body type and what shapes may suit you. Triangle top vs halter vs bandeau. When you find what works for you shop that, and then just vary colours and prints. i also love buying products that double up - like our reversible Bali marine bikini or a one piece you can wear with shorts or a bikini top you want to be seen under a singlet.
What is a quote or piece of advice you live by?
For a happy life we love this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Live in the Sunshine
Swim in the Sea
Drink the Wild Air
Summer is all about… MIDNIGHT swims.
